Our Baseball Life
And just like that, goodbye off season.
Hello to dinners at midnight, non-stop travel, stadium lights, and tight pants.
I have received an overwhelming amount of messages asking for more of a insight into our baseball life. Asking about Robby’s journey, how it all works and how him and I handle our relationship within the madness.
To be transparent, a part of me has been hesitant to share this side of our life. For what reason? Well, I’m not entirely sure. It could be because I tend to hold my personal relationship with Robby in a sacred and private place. It could be because I’m not totally sure what aspect of the baseball world you all, as a community, are intrigued about hearing more of. Or it could because I’m still trying to navigate through this lifestyle myself. I am always striving to connect with you all throughout all facets of life so with that being said, here we go …...
Today we leave for Spring Training so, I figured what better time to give a little behind the scenes recap! That way, as this season progresses, you can be up to speed and ride this wild ride with us!

Each and every single player has been and is on their own path

THE CALL UP
Let’s go back in time and start where it all began. Robby has been playing baseball since he was able to pick up a ball. His journey has truly been a unique one. The odds have been stacked against him but his perseverance and determination has knocked down every sky high wall that has stood in his way. He was undrafted out of college and then with blood, sweat and tears worked his way up the ranks. After spending 5 years in the minor league system he got the news that he was called up the big league team on September 1, 2016. Never in my entire life will I forget where I was when I heard the news. A sound came out of my mouth that I didn’t even know I was capable of making. Tears of sheer joy streamed down my face as I threw clothes in a suitcase. Robby made his major league debut in Oakland, California on September 2, 2016 and I bought a plane ticket before I was even cleared by my boss to miss work. I wouldn’t have missed that moment regardless of what was at stake so, to LAX I went! Oh, and for those wondering, I was not fired for going LOL!
In an incredibly minuscule sized nutshell that is Robby’s baseball journey. If you’re in the mood to read details of his journey that lead him to live out his dream you can do so by reading this article.
LET’S GET PERSONAL
Since Robby and I have a background of long distance therefore the massive amount of travel and increments of time we spend apart during the season doesn’t feel too completely out of our realm. There was a 2-year span in our relationship where I lived in California and he lived on the East Coast. With a long commute of 2,000 plus miles, we became pros at having a steady and healthy relationship even though we physically spent most of our time apart. Lucky for us, that has prepped us to maintain our relationship throughout the baseball season and the demanding schedule that comes with it.
Of course I wish him and I were in the same place at the same time 365 days out of the year. Of course I wish we had the option to sit down on the couch together every night after dinner. Of course I wish that I didn’t have to ride solo to friend’s weddings between the months of February to October but you want to know something that I genuinely feel in my heart? I wouldn’t change it for anything. I honest to God would not have it any other way. Being able to sit in the ballpark stands watching Robby on the mound living out a dream that he has busted his ass for is absolutely one of the most surreal feelings that continues to give me goosebumps. Being able to have this chapter forever a part of our life is unmatched. Being able to create friendships that we wouldn’t have otherwise, travel the country and experience once in a life-time opportunities is worth all of the sacrifices.
For those that have messaged me about long distance and how to best navigate through those relationships, take some time to read these previous articles that I have written. In hopes that they speak to your heart:

PERCEPTION
To the outsiders looking in, know this – the woman who stand beside the men with uniforms on are their backbones. They are the ones who are there when the media rips them apart for not having an A+ game. They are the ones taking care of the children, solo, when the guys are on road trips. They are the ones packing up the home when he gets traded in the blink of an eye. They are the ones who support them through pure chaos and through the monumental highs. They are the ones that, without them, none of this would be possible. So before you go judging those women know that there is so much more then you see on ESPN.
Confession: before the baseball world became my own – I had a very heavy opinion about “baseball wives.” I had each and every one of them pinned into a cookie cutter corner of how I assumed they were. Then, I became one. Then, I saw the sports world through a different lens and I bit my tongue as I soon realized these are some of the most selfless, caring, creative and strong women you will EVER meet. I struggle with the given title sometimes because if Robby worked in finances I wouldn’t be dubbed as “oh, one of thoseeee financial employees wives” – right? But because he puts a jersey on every day instead of a suit jacket I am now automatically put into a different category. Kind of crazy when you think about it that way, right?
Alright my friends – that’s end it right there and have all of that marinate for a bit! Virtual pinky promise that I will do my best to keep you guys in the know about the upcoming season! If you have any questions or are interested in knowing about something in particular (EX: how we pack up all of our stuff, our game day routine, etc.) leave a comment below in the comments section! Can’t wait to hear from you guys : ) Oh and GO RED SOX!
