How To Keep Your Home Clean During The Holiday

How To Keep Your Home Clean During The Holiday

The most wonderful time of the year is also the busiest time of the year. Between holiday parties, overnight guests and baking it’s sometimes a struggle to keep your home in order so, today I wanted to pass along some tips that make me sound like a nagging mother.

6 ways to keep your household clean during the holiday season.

1.   Stop, drop, clean
The best thing you can do is start with a clean slate – pun intended. Before your holiday event begins or your guests arrive spend time cleaning so you are motivated to keep it that way once the party comes to an end.

2.  Don’t Over Do It
Just because your garage looks like a personal warehouse for Christmas décor doesn’t mean that every single decoration needs to come out of the box. Stick to the basics that will leave your household looking festive and feeling comfy without leaving you stressed and your home cluttered.

3.  Put It Back
My rule of thumb when in the kitchen is to clean as you cook. If you take the few extra minutes to properly put items back into their place directly after you use them then it will save time at the back end.

4.  Daily Routine
Spending 10 minutes a day cleaning will make all the difference in your home. Turn up the NSYNC Christmas playlist and spend a few minutes tidying up. Like you, my schedule is on overload so I use the Bissell CrossWave to help me knock out cleaning my apartment. In the touch of a button this time saving machine switches from cleaning hard floors to vacuuming area rugs. Since the CrossWave is multifunctional it’s a huge space saver, because seriously who has room for an assortment of cleaning products?! By using the time and space efficient CrossWave I have more time to pick out my outfit so if you ask me, it’s a win win.

5.   Keep Surfaces Clean
A cleaning tip that I learned from my mother is that if you always keep the surfaces in your home clean and clear it will make the rest of your place appear more organized. I have an ‘everything’ drawer in the kitchen that is home for all the items that I use daily but don’t need to be sitting out on the counter.

6.  Mood Lighting
Letting natural light into your home will take your space from looking dark and drab to bright and chic. Open up those blinds, girlfriend!

I know this isn’t the most fun topic to discuss but I hope it helps to make your holiday that much merrier! What tip would you add to the list?
