How To Dominate Monday Before It Dominates You
It’s (almost) Monday, let’s all let out a loud obnoxious sigh together.
Feel better? Ok good. Here’s the deal, there is no secret formula to make the Monday blues vanish into thin air but what I can do is shed some light on ways to make Monday’s suck a little less. Follow these tips if you want to dominate your week right off the bat.
8 Ways To Tackle Monday:
1. Sleep is your BFF
In retrospect Sundays were made for rest and not for endless mimosas. I’m not suggesting that you completely dismiss #SundayFunday but remember that balance is key.. If you plan to brunch so hard, then check off any must do’s // errands beforehand so you can come home and dive into a bubble or relaxation. Make it a priority to get a good nights rest every Sunday night and you’ll be amazed how much better you feel come Monday morning.
2. Be Prepared
Let’s back up for a second. Before you curl up under your sheets make sure you are prepared for what’s to come. A bulletproof plan for having a smooth sailing Monday morning is to lay out your outfit, pack your work bag and figure out your lunch plan the night before that way you don’t have to run around your apartment in a complete frenzy.
3. Get Physical
Ok, don’t roll your eyes at me after you read this buttttt….working out Monday AM is one of the best things that you can do for yourself, mentally and physically. Starting your week off with physical activity has been proven to spike performance at work and you get to burn calories before you sit at a desk all day – it’s a win win!
4. Let’s Eat
Yup, you guessed it. Eating a healthy breakfast is a key factor in not letting Monday kick your ass. You don’t need me to tell you the importance of a well balanced meal but I will say that no one wants to deal with you being hangry or listen to your stomach growl so for the love of God eat a real meal before walking out the door – your coworkers will thank you.
5. Don’t Touch It
For most of us, it’s instinct to reach for our phone and refresh our inbox before our eyes are even fully open… DON’T DO THAT!! Give yourself a window of time to adjust and wake up before having technology and other peoples request in front of you. The morning is yours, be selfish with your time!
6. Afternoon Delight
Depending on the flexibility of your job, push Monday meetings to the afternoon time slot. No one wants to attend an early morning meeting on Monday. No one. Not even Oprah. Block off the front half of the day to get caught up on emails, prepare for the week ahead and get your creative juices flowing.
7. Goal Digger
Excuse me while I sound like a broken record but if you don’t set goals each week, you should start. Having weekly, attainable, goals will motivate you to get a jump start on the week instead of having your to do list get lost in the hustle and bustle of the week. Having check marks next to your goals come Friday afternoon will have you feeling like a dang champion. Go get ‘em!
8. Blow Off Steam
If you ignore the 7 tips above then you’ll need to pay extra attention to this one. Having a work life balance is key to living a healthy and full life – regardless of what day of the week it is. Regardless of how amazing or how sh!tty your Monday was, give your brain the chance to blow off some stem. Make plans with your girlfriend, sign up for a workout class, organize a happy hour with your coworkers – whatever it may be, make penciling in social activities a priority as well.
