Cures For A Bad Day

Woke up late? Spilled coffee? Hit every red light? Roommate left their dirty dishes in the sink, AGAIN? Got in a fight with your mom? A lot of annoying shit can happen all before you even pull into the office on Monday morning. Whether the frustrations are sprinkled throughout or if it comes in one BIG wave here are a few QUICK ways to turn a bad day around before it alllll goes downhill.

1.  Change The Lens
When things start to go wrong it’s incredibly easy to wallow in a dark cloud for the remainder of the day. Before you take a stumble down this dark hole stop yourself and change your lens aka your mindset. Instead of telling yourself the woah is me story pinpoint the problem and move forward. What are you really upset about? Instead of telling yourself, “I’m upset” try vocalizing the reason you’re upset.

2.  Take A Step Back
Alright so, step 1 didn’t work and now you have “I’m in a bad mood” stamped across your forehead. This is where you better check yourself before you wreck your day and others around you. Cue, a moment of gratitude. Take a moment for yourself to revert your energy into a more positive manner. Whether that is simply going to the restroom and having a talk with yourself in the mirror or taking 5 and going for a walk around the block – whatever you need to do, do it. During this “break” write out or make a mental list of things that help you see the bigger picture. What are three wonderful things in your life RIGHT NOW? What you looking forward to this weekend?

3Take Action
Time to put these remedies into full gear. An act of kindness never hurt no body so, buy your co- worker a cup of coffee. Not feeling that idea? Pick yourself up some fresh flowers on the way home, that always does the trick! Turn up your Spotify play list and dance out your frustrations in your living room. If you know you feel better when being productive then focus on dominating your to do list and not dwelling on whatever got you down earlier.

4. Let It Out
Sometimes a vent sesh with your BFF is just what the bad mood doctor ordered. Find your person, call them, let it out and you will instantly feel a weight lifted off your shoulders.  It’s better to voice it now then to keep it brewing up inside of you.

5. A Better Tomorrow
Your day totally sucked, it happens but there is no need to bring today into tomorrow. Reset your expectations, set yourself up a for successful new day and get a good night’s rest. Remember, it’s just a bad day not a bad life.
